details and insight :
Illustrating Fornasetti’s distinctive yet playful re-imagining of the zodiac and conjuring a world of mystery and destiny, the celestial ‘Astronomici’ design was originally unveiled in the 1950’s as a collection of porcelain plates for the Atelier. Later, Fornasetti was given the opportunity to decorate the Andrea Doria ship with this design; an Italian Ocean liner headed to New York City that was later wrecked in 1956 during a voyage. It is hand-poured and made of 100% vegetal wax and housed in a decorative ceramic jar with a lid. Features a long-lasting and clean burn for up to 60 hours.
The resulting scent ‘Otto’ (Eight) is a sophisticated and unique scent that transcends time, season, gender and borders. With ingredients that are of personal significance to Barnaba – Mediterranean herbs that were found in and around the family home, woods often utilised in interiors designs or pieces of furniture created by Fornasetti. Other more ethereal ingredients – such as incense – conjure a latent spirituality or sense of dreamscape that is often present in Fornasetti graphic poetry.
